SOME THINGS I **REALLY** WANT TO TRY...
Rug hooking
and crocheted rag rugs like these from Studio Beerhorst;
ceramics (via Knack);
and dyeing my own yarn, like this from The Spun Monkey.
What new things would you like to try?
I am really trying to master the zig zag stitch. In my head I completely understand how it works, yet my hands have another idea! This is my best attempt so far, even though I have added stitches here and there. I think with a bit more practice I will be ready to tackle a zig zag afghan.
How about you? Is there anything you have tried lately that has not been as easy as you hoped it would?

Psst...
There will be a mini update on Pretty Zakka Shop Monday morning at 9 a.m. Pacific time.
See you there!

WIP WEDNESDAY
When my sister and I were younger (middle school or so) we used to attend open studio sessions with a local artist. One of the exercises was to fill a large piece of paper with color, and then go in with black ink and add pattern on top. Usually this meant drawing a large spiral, dividing it into tiny sections, and trying to come up with a different pattern for each. A stack of 18"x24" printmaking paper has been staring at me from the back of my supply closet for awhile now, and I finally sat down with it, some acrylic paint and India Ink today. Nowhere near finished, but I am having fun with it so far.
Here is Josh's ongoing project, just for fun. :)
And these two are not a project at all, I just like how fluffy they are underneath.
What are you working on this week?
xo
Despite being *so* cute in my head, the project I planned for this week's DIY Monday did not turn out well. Working on it gave me a fume-induced headache, and it was just plain ugly!
So, instead, here are some of my favorite pretty, fun projects from around the web. Enjoy!
Recycled Roses Wreath by Alisa Burke
The Messy Dress by Alisa Burke
Boy Belt Tutorial by Elsie Marley (via Smile & Wave).

Yikes. See this photo? I swear this is the first time I have had "real clothes" on in weeks. You may have heard me
What else is going on around here? At my request, super sweet Holly Sarah put together this adorable collage of Pretty Zakka Shop products to use on the homepage. Thank you so much, Holly! I LOVE it!
While poking around the shop you may notice that the shipping prices are a bit lower than they were. So far using Big Cartel to the host the shop has been a dream. I love that you can customize everything and really make it your own, and highly recommend it to anyone else who would like to open a small shop! My only wish so far is that there was a more accurate way to calculate shipping. A few days ago I went in and manually set the shipping price for each item (both by itself and with another item), and it is much better!
If you view the blog using a reader, you might not have seen the update to the Virtual Yard Sale post. I have added a bunch of new items, and will continue to do so! You can always check out what is available by clicking the button on the sidebar.
I think that is it for random bloggy business... I am going to take advantage of the little burst of energy I have to clean up around here, and then I am headed out into the sun. It was in the 80's yesterday, and today will be the same. YAY!!

I was just looking through some of the things I have made in the past year (use the little grey bar to scroll through the slideshow)... So many different techniques! I really want to go back and revisit some of them. I love gocco, and needle felting, and painting (even though I am not confident at all in my skill level!)... Sometimes I get so caught up in photographing, writing about and posting what I make that I do not have time to sit and really MAKE. It's a funny balance, and one that I have not quite mastered yet.
How do you juggle things?
P.S. If you are working on a project you would like to share for W.I.P. Wednesday, please email me a photo!
P.P.S. That slideshow is funny--it randomly shows different photos every time I refresh the page!
The new yarn in Pretty Zakka Shop is so easy to work with, and I am in love with the texture it creates. A cotton/acrylic blend, it is slightly nubby and has the tiniest bit of stretch. My first project with it was this hat for Wanda.
Next up is a set of coasters and some scrubbies for the kitchen (following the pattern in this book). I am also planning on some booties and a matching hat for a friend's baby boy who will be here soon.
How about you--what are you up to today?

The weather is just barely starting to shift into spring, and all I can think about are pretty dresses worn with lots of layers (both underneath and on top).
IT'S BEEN A LONG DAY AROUND HERE...
Actually, it's been a long week of sickness for both Henry and his mama. So, I am taking a minute to appreciate a few things I love. Including chocolate cupcakes with roasted marshmallow "frosting"...
my Minnetonkas...
the storage unit my dad brought this morning for all of my Pretty Zakka Shop merchandise (even though I said the bad f-word about forty times while putting it together)...
and these two boys who both need baths, have been harassing each other all day and are scattering junk all. over. the. house.
I think I need another cupcake.
I am not a technology girl at all and have not been even remotely tempted to buy an iphone, but these photos my sister just took with hers kind of make me want one! Aren't they pretty? She used this app, if you are interested in trying it out. Even their website is pretty darn cute!

WIP WEDNESDAY
This project is so cute! Using a tutorial she found on the long thread, Angie has been making these pretty cereal box journals. You can see more of Angie's craftiness on her blog and in her shop. Thank you so much for sharing, Angie!
Around here, Henry and I are trying to recover from the flu, so quiet, easy projects have been the name of the game. Right now that means necklaces made following Jenny Gordy's lovely tutorial.
How about you? What have you been up to?
xoxo
